Toronto indie distributor D Films has promoted Michael Robson to the newly created position of SVP, acquisitions and new business development.

The promotion will see Robson’s role shift from focusing on film acquisitions and content marketing to pursuing new business opportunities.

Jim Sherry, CEO, D Films, says that those new opportunities may include a move into content production, although the company was not ready to speak to the strategy at this time. A focus on digital platforms, he noted, is an integral part of the company’s expansion plan.

Robson will continue to report to Sherry, who founded the company in 2009 and hired Robson the same year as VP of marketing and acquisitions.

Among D Film’s upcoming releases are Max Steel, Green Room, Neon Demon, and Andrew Cividino’s Sleeping Giant, which is tentatively slated for an April release . The company also distributes horror The Gift through an output deal it has with Blumhouse Productions’ distribution arm Blumhouse International.
