Syfy has cancelled Toronto-shot Defiance after three seasons, the U.S. net confirmed with Playback Daily Friday.
The sci-fi drama series is produced by Universal Cable Productions, with Kevin Murphy serving as showrunner. Canadians featured in Defiance‘s cast included Playback Canadian Film and Television Hall of Fame inductee Graham Greene and Mia Kirshner. When Defiance launched in 2013, Syfy teamed up with California-based game developer Trion Worlds to create a massive multi-player game connected to the series.
“Defiance was a truly groundbreaking series, delivering an immersive, cross-platform experience that transcended the television screen in a way that viewers had never seen before. We are incredibly proud of the work of the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers – and especially showrunner Kevin Murphy – who together brought the rich world of Defiance to life over its three season arc,” Syfy said in a statement.
Defiance aired in Canada on Shaw Media specialty channel Showcase.
