DHX Media has secured broadcast deals with Australia’s ABC Kids for two of its new flagship preschool shows, Teletubbies and Twirlywoos, and its consumer products arm DHX Brands has appointed Haven as Twirlywoos’ licensing agent down under.
ABC Kids will debut both series in 2016 while Haven, which also reps DHX Brands’ Teletubbies, will go to work developing an Australian licensing program for Twirlywoos.
Set to debut on CBeebies in the UK later this year, the re-imagined, CGI-enhanced Teletubbies series is currently in production on 60 brand-new episodes starring popular characters Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po.
The ABC agreement for Twirlywoos follows recent DHX deals for the CBeebies-commissioned series with broadcasters Lagardère (Gulli and Tiji in France), YLE (Finland), SVT (Sweden), NRK (Norway), Hop! (Israel) and DHX-owned Family Jr. (Canada), which will bow the series this fall.
Licensees already signed on for Twirlywoos include HarperCollins Children’s Books for exclusive publishing and global master toy partner Golden Bear.
Twirlywoos (50 x 11 minutes) is created and executive produced by Ragdoll Productions’ Anne Wood. It features stop-frame animation and live-action sequences and stars four curious bird-like characters that encourage preschoolers to think for themselves and learn about their new environment.
