D Films acquires Sleeping Giant

The Toronto-based distributor has picked up the Canadian rights to Andrew Cividino's debut feature.

In early TIFF dealmaking, Toronto-based distributor D Films has picked up the Canadian distribution rights to Andrew Cividino’s Sleeping Giant.

D Films VP marketing and development Michael Robson confirmed the deal in an email to Playback Daily. The distributor is planning a theatrical run for the coming-of-age feature, he said.

Sleeping Giant premiered at this year’s Cannes film festival and competed in the Critic’s Week sidebar, and will screen at TIFF this year. A short version of the film by the same name was selected for the 2015 edition of TIFF’s Canada Top 10 Film Festival.

Sleeping Giant stars Nick Senino and Reece Moffet, along with Jackson Martin, David Disher and Erika Brodzky. The feature is produced by Film Forge in association with Hawkeye Pictures, with Karen Harnisch producing and Aeschylus Poulos executive producing.

Seville International holds the international sales rights to Sleeping Giant.
