Golden Maple Awards names inaugural winners

Presented yesterday in L.A., the new awards show recognizes Canadian talent in TV series broadcast in the U.S.

The winners of the inaugural Golden Maple Awards were revealed at an event hosted by the Academy of Canadians in Sports and Entertainment – Los Angeles on Wednesday in Los Angeles, with Brandon Jay McLaren among those who went home with prizes.

The winners were selected by members of ACISE-LA across three categories. The Golden Maple Awards recognize Canadian talent in television series that were broadcast in the U.S. between July 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015.

McLaren picked up the prize for Best Actor in a TV Series Broadcast in the U.S. for his work on Graceland, which airs on USA stateside. Amanda Crew won the Best Actress in a TV Series Broadcast in the U.S. for her role on HBO’s Silicon Valley.

Elsewhere, both Emily Hampshire and Meaghan Rath were presented with the prize for Newcomer of the Year in a TV Series Broadcast in the U.S. Hampshire appears in 12 Monkeys (Syfy) and Schitt’s Creek (POP TV) and Rath appears in Fox’s New Girl.

The awards were presented at the SLS Hotel in L.A. and were hosted by Erin Karpluk (Riftworld Chronicles).
