Toronto-based Tricon Kids & Family has paired up with Wildseed Studios in the U.K. to coproduce new animated comedy Counterfeit Cat.

Commissioned by Disney XD EMEA and Teletoon in Canada, Counterfeit Cat is being developed by the two companies as a 26 x half-hour series and 11 x two-minute shorts.

Targeting kids ages six to 12, the series follows Gark, a naive young alien looking to save the universe and anxious but vain housecat Max, whom Gark mistakes for a heroic tiger. Max, however, is more interested in saving himself than saving the world.

Wildseed principals Miles Bullough and Jesse Cleverly and Tricon’s Andrea Gorfolova, Jon Rutherford and Frank Saperstein are serving as executive producers.

Production is getting underway on the series and shorts at Wildseed’s new studio in Bristol.

Tricon International will handle global distribution across all platforms.
