The Canadian short film Hole, from Toronto-based writer/director Martin Edralin, has won a Grand Prix award at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
The film won the Grand Prix award in the International Competition program at the festival, which ran from Jan. 30 to Feb. 7. The 15-minute film tells the story of a disabled man’s search for intimacy.
Hole has its world premiere at the Locarno International Film Festival, where it won the film and video subtitling award after it screened in the Leopards of Tomorrow international competition for emerging directors and film students.
The short also won the grand prize in the International competition at the Curta Cinema Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival. Hole is up for a 2015 Canadian Screen Award in the category of Best Live Action Short Drama.
Hole is produced by Circus Zero Films and First Love Films, and was financed solely with a Media Arts grant from the Ontario Arts Council.
