The National Screen Institute has named its latest filmmaker teams for the 2015 edition of its Aboriginal documentary course.

Through the program, the selected director-producer teams are provided with training, mentorship and funding for the production of a short documentary. The completed projects air on APTN and on aptn.ca, and students also attend the Hot Docs festival in Toronto.

This year’s selected teams are: Tasha Hubbard and Marilyn Poitras of Saskatoon; Janet Rogers and Jackson Twobears of Victoria; Cowboy Smithx of Rosedale, B.C. and Alexandra Lazarowich of Edmonton; and Rachel Garrick of Hudson, ON and Nadine Arpin of Sioux Lookout, ON.

The students will participate in a two-week bootcamp in Winnipeg that starts on Feb. 8. The bootcamp will include talks from industry experts such as Elizabeth Klink, Shane Belcourt and Sturla Gunnarsson. Alanis Obomsawin will also spend a day with the students.

The program’s co-managers are Ursula Lawson and Elise Swerhone.
