Great Pacific Media acquired by Thunderbird Films

Thunderbird Films is getting deeper into the factual TV business by acquiring Vancouver-based Great Pacific Media.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the factual producer run by Blair Reekie and Mark Miller will work with Thunderbird to grow its presence in factual, lifestyle and formats for the international market.

Great Pacific Media has post-production and studio facilities in Vancouver, and specializes in development, production and financing of factual, documentary, game show and reality TV series.

The Great Pacific Media includes Highway Thru Hell for Discovery Channel, and the upcoming Airshow series for Discovery Canada and Game of Homes for the W Network, where four couples compete to save four houses from the wrecking ball.

No layoffs at Great Pacific Media are anticipated by Thunderbird as it takes on the factual producer as a new division.

The factual TV deal follows Thunderbird in September 2014 acquiring London-based indie distributor Soda Pictures to bring U.K. arthouse and indie films to Canada for distribution.

And Thunderbird earlier picked up Reunion Pictures to get into the scripted TV space, while also forming Sea to Sky Studios as a 50-50 joint venture with Lionsgate.
