Cineflix Media executives Rob Carey and Camilla Lewis (pictured) have launched an independent production company in the UK after reaching a buyout deal with the company’s British arm.
The former Cineflix Productions UK creative director and managing director will head up Curve Media as joint CEOs. The company will focus on making factual and factual entertainment content for the British and North American markets.
Iain Taylor, formerly of Cineflix Productions, will head up development and Paul Day will lead production.
As part of the buyout deal, Curve has acquired a slate of existing Cineflix assets, including Claimed and Shamed (BBC1), Salvage Hunters (Discovery Quest), Trauma Doctors: Every Second Counts (Channel 5), and the kids show Pet School (CBBC).
Additionally, Curve has landed two new commissions: Going For A Drive with Richard Wilson for ITV1 and My Strange Pregnancy for TLC International. The upstart shop has also inked a five-year output deal with BBC Worldwide, which will see the distributor acquire the global rights to new projects.
Cineflix Rights will continue to distribute content created by Cineflix Productions UK, such as Claimed and Shamed, Salvage Hunters and Pet School, and has a first-look option on renewals.
“Camilla and I have forged an exciting creative partnership over the past three years and look forward to striking out on our own,” Carey said in a statement. “I’d like to thank Glen Salzman, Katherine Buck and the rest of the Cineflix team for their support over the years and for helping us make this move.”
“We are very pleased to be able to help Rob, Camilla, Iain, Paul and the CPUK team launch their new indie,” said Cineflix Media co-founders and co-CEOs Glen Salzman and Katherine Buck in a statement. “Cineflix Media remains committed to the UK, focusing our production activity through Buccaneer Media, our joint venture with Tony Wood, and our growing international distribution division Cineflix Rights.”
Carey and Lewis took the reins of Cineflix UK’s unscripted division when the company began a restructuring process last summer.
