Mehta was hand in Beijing to receive the trophy for the Canada-India coproduction from fellow directors John Woo and Feng Xiaogang.

Siddharth, which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival before shifting to a North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, portrays a chain-wallah with few resources who travels across India in search of his missing son.

The film, starring Rajesh Tailang and Tannishtha Chatterjee, is produced by Mehta and his Amal collaborators David Miller and Steven Bray of A71 Productions.
