CBC gets into global format business with The Gurin Co.

The CBC is getting into the global format business with long-time player The Gurin Company.

The pubcaster will partner with Los Angeles-based Gurin to develop Canadian content as new formats for global distribution.

The CBC touted the creative venture as a first for the pubcaster as it aims to promote Canadian content internationally.

“When Phil (Gurin) approached us, we were very interested in the opportunity and we’re pleased to partner with The Gurin Company, who are such supporters of international production and content,” Jennifer Dettman, executive director, studio and unscripted content at the CBC, said in a statement Friday.

The Gurin Company discovered Japan’s Dragons’ Den and brought it to ABC as Shark Tank, and launched a U.S. version of the German game show Wetten Dass? as Wanna Bet? on ABC.

Other formats the Gurin Company has arranged for U.S. broadcast and cable outlets includes The Singing Bee, Oh Sit!, Win Lose or Pawn , The Image Awards and OK, Now What?
