Lionsgate grossed $2.25B in global box office in 2013

DEC 23 - Movie hits like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Now You See Me from Summit Entertainment propelled the Canadian-based mini-studio during the latest calendar year.

Lionsgate Entertainment on Monday said it grossed over $1 billion at the North American box office in calendar 2013, and another $1 billion-plus at the international box office.

Propelled by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the second installment of the Hunger Games franchise, and Summit Entertainment‘s Now You See Me sleeper hit, Lionsgate grossed an estimated $1.025 billion at the domestic box office through Sunday, Dec. 22.

Lionsgate said it grossed $1.227 billion at the international box office for a worldwide box office total of around $2.252 billion during its latest financial year.

The Canadian-based mini studio for the second year running broke the $1 billion mark at the domestic box office in a single year.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has to date grossed an estimated $372 million domestically, and $393.6 million internationally for a total of $765.6 million worldwide in its first five weeks of release, Lionsgate said.

And Now You See Me grossed $354 million worldwide – $118 million domestically, $236 million internationally.
