Looks like CTV didn’t find “satisfaction” with its latest Canadian comedy.
The network on Monday confirmed that it is not renewing ensemble comedy Satisfaction, for a second season.
“We remain very proud of the series and all involved. CTV extends its sincere thanks to [creator] Tim McAuliffe and [producer] DHX Media Ltd., as well as the entire cast and crew, and looks forward to working with them again in the future,” the network said in a statement.
Satisfaction star Ryan Belleville tweeted: “They say a hit in Canadian TV is a show that hasn’t been cancelled yet! Sadly I can officially say that #Satisfaction is not a hit.”
Bell Media said that the decision was influenced by the show’s ratings.
“Unfortunately the series did not perform as well as we had hoped,” said Bell Media VP communications Scott Henderson.
The series premiered June 24 at 8 p.m., as a lead-in to Charlie Sheen-starrer Anger Management at 8:30 p.m., and netted 524,000 viewers (PPM overnight data (2+) confirmed by BBM Canada).
The series wrapped on Sept. 16 with a final average of 511,000 viewers, according to Bell Media (BBM Canada reported 502,000 (2+) for PPM overnight data).
Bell Media greenlit the half-hour homegrown comedy in January. CTV ordered 12 episodes in addition to the pilot, which was shot in fall 2012 in Toronto.
Written and created by McAuliffe, Satisfaction follows a group of friends as they share their relationship woes and personal ambitions, with neurotic neighbours and bromance moments thrown in.
In addition to Belleville, the ensemble comedy starred Luke MacFarlane, Leah Renee, Stephanie Lemelin and Vik Sahay.
Satisfaction is produced by Halifax-based DHX Media in association with CTV. McAuliffe and DHX’s Michael Donovan are exec producers, with Keith Samples directing. McAuliffe, Mark Critch, Jason Belleville, Tim Polley, Jenn Engels and Ryan Belleville comprised the writers room.
