Uvanga, Louis Cyr added to Whistler’s Borsos competition

Marie-Hélène Cousineau and Madeline Piujuq Ivalu’s Uvanga, an English and English and Inuktitut language film about a mother and son travelling to the high Arctic, has been added to the Borsos Competition at the Whistler Film Festival.

They join a festival competition that also include Daniel Roby’s historical biopic Louis Cyr: The Strongest Man in the World, Richie Mehta’s Siddharth and Bruce McDonald’s The Husband.

Whistler organizers earlier announced that Jason Priestley’s Cas & Dylan, which is to open the Dec. 4 to 8 event, and Craig Goodwill’s Patch Town will be the final two of six titles to compete for Whistler’s Borsos award, worth $15,000.

“Reflecting the huge diversity of talent and subject matter in Canadian film, this year’s Borsos entries span the globe, from the teeming streets of Delhi (Siddharth) to the austere beauty of Nunavut (Uvanga).” Said Whistler director of programming Paul Gratton in a statement Tuesday.

The jury for the 10th annual Borsos competition will be unveiled in November.
