Breakthrough launching two Canadian series on Hulu

Toronto-based Breakthrough Entertainment has inked a deal for two Canadian series, The True Heroines and Producing Parker, to launch in the U.S. online on Hulu and Hulu Plus.

A sci-fi dramedy web series, The True Heroines follows three seemingly normal 1950s suburban housewives who have superpowers. Through the six-episode series, the women evade the corporation that gave them their powers while having flashbacks to their former lives as cabaret dancers. The True Heroines is produced by Vancouver’s True Heroines Entertainment and stars Fiona Vroom (Supernatural), Jovanna Huguet (Package Deal) and Paula Giroday (Once Upon a Time). The series cast also includes Ali Liebert, Neil Grayston, Daniel Cudmore, Gina Chiarelli, Zak Santiago, Leah Gibson and Brendan Penny.

And animated series Producing Parker, which previously aired on Global’s TVtropolis (now rebranded as DTOUR), goes behind the scenes of a daytime talkshow and follows its overworked, underpaid producer and her crew. The Breakthrough-produced series is voiced by Kristin Booth as Parker and Kim Cattrall as the high-maintenance talk show host Dee, along with Peter Keleghan and Aaron Abrams.

The 13-ep series premiered in 2009 and was renewed for a second 13-episode season in early 2011.

“Hulu is the perfect platform for us to launch these wholly original series in the U.S.,” said Breakthrough president of distribution Nat Abraham in a statement. “Streaming programs have proven themselves with viewers and both True Heroines and Producing Parker are high-quality offerings,” he added.

The series, distributed by Breakthrough Entertainment, are slated to debut this fall on Hulu and the Hulu Plus subscription service.
