Transmedia specialists Daniel Dales and Jarrett Sherman, the co-founders of Smokebomb Entertainment, have revealed Digital Howard, their new business venture.

Along with officially unveiling the company, the Toronto-based interactive entertainment duo have unveiled its first project. Called Spin Off 360, it is the digital media extension of Spin Off, an original game-show format from Mark Burnett and Hearst Corp.’s One Three Media joint venture being produced for Channel Zero’s CHCH by Suddenly SeeMore Productions.

Spinoff will have its broadcast premiere in Fall 2013. The digital media extension, which is funded with the participation of the Bell Broadcast & New Media Fund, is to be available on the CHCH website.

It will be designed to allow audiences watching at home to play along with the TV show, in real time, on their digital device of choice – tablet, smartphone, or laptop. As well, there is to be a “digital home edition” that is accessible at any time and has social-media elements, allowing competitors to play with other online participants. Competitors have the ability to win points and vie for a place in a season-ending digital tournament, where they can win cash and prizes.

Dales and Sherman led Smokebomb, which they founded in 2008, through its acquisition by Toronto’s Shaftesbury later that same year. They left Smokebomb in July 2012. Their credits there included teen-oriented mobile app Totally Amp’d.

They bill Digital Howard as being a company that specializes in expanding conventional intellectual property onto digital platforms, working with IP owners at any point along the market curve, from the initial stages of development through production and commercial exploitation.

“Pulling Digital Howard together has been a lot of fun. We’ve assembled a talented team, and have already begun to put some exciting strategic partnerships in place,” says Dales in a statement. Of Spin Off 360 he added “Who doesn’t want to actually play along with the game shows they love?”
