Tatiana Maslany is switching gears from clones to Captain Canuck.
The Orphan Black star has joined the cast of the upcoming Captain Canuck web series, slated to launch online on, fittingly, July 1.
Maslany, in an as-yet-to-be-named role, joins previously announced stars Kris Holden-Ried, Paul Amos (both of Lost Girl) and Laura Vandervoort (Bitten).
“We were really looking for a very specific quality for this role. It carries a lot of weight and strength and Tatiana delivers that in spades,” said creative director Paul Gardner in a statement.
The five-part animated series is funded entirely by an Indiegogo campaign, which successfully raised just over its targeted amount of $50,000.
Captain Canuck was created in 1976 by comic book writer/director Richard Comely. It is being reimagined by Captain Canuck Inc., headed up by Fadi Hakim and Alex Sengupta, with the web series produced by animation partner Smiley Guy Studios.
Minds Eye Entertainment is working on a big screen treatment about the Canadian superhero, with a script penned by Arne Olsen.
