Writer/producers Jeremy Boxen, Jenn Engels and Joseph Kay are in the midst of this year’s Bell Media Showrunner Bootcamp, which runs to mid-March.
The advanced professional program from the Canadian Film Centre and Bell Media is designed to help three experienced TV writers develop skills to establish themselves as showrunners.
The annual bootcamp, which began in Toronto last month, includes mentorship and networking opportunities with TV creators, showrunners and execs from both Canada and the U.S.
The program also included a week in L.A. from Feb. 18 to Feb. 22.
This year’s mentors include Private Practice exec producer Steve Blackman; Saving Hope and Rookie Blue exec producer Morwyn Brebner; eOne VP creative affairs Rachel Fulford; NCIS: Los Angeles and ER exec producer Scott Gemmill; ABC Entertainment Group SVP movies, miniseries and acquisitions Quinn Taylor; and Mad Men writer/producer Dahvi Waller.
Last year’s inaugural program participants were Daegan Fryklind, in pre-production on upcoming scripted drama Bitten for Space and co-exec producer and writer on CTV’s Motive; Dennis Heaton, exec producer and writer on Motive; and Shelley Eriksen, co-exec producer on Continuum.
