Channel Zero looking to radio with Biz88 station licence bid

Indie broadcaster Channel Zero Inc. is looking to move into the radio realm.

Channel Zero on Monday said it submitted an application to  the CRTC to launch an all-business news radio format for greater Toronto

The bid comes in response to the open call from the regulator for a new radio licence to serve the Toronto market, issued by the CRTC in September.

Channel Zero has launched a public campaign to secure support for the proposed station, Biz88, in time for the upcoming CRTC hearing

The regulator will consider 23 received applications to serve Toronto, and is under no obligation to license any of them.

The proposed Biz88, to be operated by Channel Zero, will focus on investing, personal finance and corporate business news.

The proposed programming for Biz88 includes  “Broadcasting from Bay St.” and “The Closing Bell.”

The indie broadcaster owns specialty channels Movieola – The Short Film Channel and Silver Screen Classics, and OTA channels CHCH in Hamilton and Metro14 in Montreal.
