Entertainment One has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the Quebec theatrical comedy Starbuck from distribution arm Entertainment One International.
An American roll-out for the Ken Scott comedy follows the French language picture grabbing audience awards at film festivals in Santa Barbara and Palm Springs in California, and taking in $3.5 million at the Canadian box office.
The Canadian distributor’s recently expanded U.S. division acquired all media rights for Starbuck south of the border.
The Quebec comedy from Caramel Films stars Patrick Huard, Julie LeBreton and Antoine Bertrand, and portrays a 42-year-old teenager who discovers he’s the biological father of 533 children just as he’s looking to straighten his life out.
Entertainment One earlier sold Starbuck to Benelux (Imagine), France (Diaphana), Spain (Vertigo/Wildbunch), Switzerland, German & Austria (Ascot Elite), Japan (Klockworks, Comstock) and Israel (Nachshon).
