Starbuck, the Quebec comedy by Ken Scott, on Sunday earned the top audience award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Scott’s film, which stars Patrick Huard, Julie Le Breton and Antoine Bertrand, portrays a grown man who learns he has fathered 533 children after many trips to the sperm bank years ago.
Starbuck was named the best narrative film by fest-goers in Palm Springs from among 188 films from 73 countries, including 40 of the 63 foreign language entries for this year’s Academy Awards, that unspooled at the prestigious American festival.
The French-language film was Canada’s top grossing movie of 2011 after crossing over from the Quebec market to make a strong showing in English-speaking Canada.
Entertainment One International is selling the Quebec comedy internationally.
