Corus to bring ABC Spark to Canada

Content producers and media buyers will soon have a new TV channel with which to reach Millennials next year, as Corus Entertainment today announced it is bringing TV channel ABC Spark to Canada.

Set to premiere in 2012, the Disney/ABC Television Group channel has been acquired by Corus via what it is calling an “expansive” licensing agreement that covers multiple platforms. The deal marks the first time the two media companies have launched such a venture together.

ABC Spark targets 15- to 34-year-olds, a demo which constitutes approximately 30% of the Canadian population, the announcement states. It has been running in the U.S. for seven years and aspects of the brand have been sold into 200 territories around the world to date.

“Bridging the gap between our kids and women’s networks, ABC Spark will be a national service with compelling programming directed at the fast-expanding millennial generation,” said Doug Murphy, president, Corus Television, in a release.

Series on the channel’s U.S. slate include Switched at Birth, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Make It or Break It, Melissa and Joey and Jane By Design.
