Stephen Harper, 19th century desk sergeant

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is being a pretty good sport these days.

The PM is set to make a cameo appearance in his “favourite show,” Murdoch Mysteries, on July 20 as Desk Sergeant Armstrong, an avid hockey fan and oblivious observer of political figures.

The ironic twist to the episode is that Harper’s character fails to recognize Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier when he walks into the police station. Laurier then goes on to help Murdoch, played by Yannick Bisson, solve a murder mystery with national security implications.

The episode of the Shaftesbury series was shot last fall, and runs as part of the show’s fourth season, which premiered June 7.

The ep, “Confederate Treasure,” was directed by Bisson.
