The helicopter crash that took place April 30 during shooting near the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania for the G4 reality series Campus PD has claimed one life.

Cameraman Greg Jacobsen died Monday following complications from injuries sustained from the crash. Cambria County coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski told the Indiana Gazette that Jacobsen died of respiratory problems that arose during his recovery.

Shortly after the crash, Northwestern Ontario newspaper The Chronicle Journal reported that Thunder Bay native Jacobsen had incurred various fractures and burns, and that his lungs had collapsed, but that he was expected to recover.

Campus PD is produced by Toronto-based Cineflix Productions. Jacobsen, a DP who had worked on the show since its debut, was one of four individuals on board the helicopter when it crashed into two apartment buildings during filming.

An initial report from the US National Transportation Safety Board said that the Cineflix crew had been shooting aerial footage of Indiana borough police cars as they scouted the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus and surrounding area.

Pilot Robert Trent, admitted to hospital in critical condition following the crash, was discharged on May 20. Another member of the film crew, Bartosz Sobolewski, sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. Another passenger, as yet unnamed publicly, was injured seriously in the accident.

In a statement issued to realscreen, Simon Lloyd, CEO of programming for Cineflix said: “We are deeply saddened by this news. Our heartfelt condolences are with Greg’s family and friends and the Cineflix staff who worked with him.”

Jane Lloyd, head of production at Cineflix, told the Indiana Gazette that no decision has been made yet by the prodco or the network regarding the footage shot by the crew.

Campus PD follows police in various North American university towns. It airs on the NBC Universal-owned G4 cable network in the US.
