Shaftesbury Films is putting the cast of Life with Derek back to work in a TV movie for Family Channel. Vacation with Derek, due to shoot this month and next in northern Ontario, again pairs stars Ashley Leggat and Michael Seater as the battling step-siblings, under direction from Michael McGowan (One Week, Saint Ralph).
Shaftesbury has four seasons of the series in the can, and is considering moving the property into further MOWs.
Former cast mates Daniel Magder, Jordan Todosey, Ariel Waller, Joy Tanner and John Ralston will also be back, joined by new arrival Kate Trotter (The Jane Show) and Nico Archambault, winner of the first season of So You Think You Can Dance Canada. Archambault, fittingly, plays a dance instructor and will do double duty as the MOW’s choreographer. Trotter stars as the family’s grandmother, who host her kin during the summer at her seniors’ lodge.
The special is due to air in 2010, building on the four-season run of the series. ‘Vacation with Derek is the perfect complement to this extraordinarily successful franchise,’ said Shaftesbury chairman and CEO Christina Jennings in a statement.
Jennings exec produces with Scott Garvie and Daphne Ballon.
