Two Canadian animated series turned up winners at the 34th Annual Creative Arts & Entertainment Emmy Awards, held June 14 in Los Angeles.
Arthur, produced by Cookie Jar Entertainment and WGBH Boston, won for best children’s animated program. The series, which follows the adventures of an aardvark who behaves like a regular kid, airs locally on CBC, TVO, and Knowledge Network, and on PBS in the U.S.
The Backyardigans, meanwhile, tied in the achievement in animation category. The Nelvana program, a copro with Nick Jr. that airs in Canada on Treehouse TV, follows five animal friends who embark on epic adventures via their imaginations. It tied for the award with Cartoon Network’s Ben 10 and PBS’ The Adventures of Piggley Winks.
Eligible programs air between 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. PBS was the night’s big winner, scoring 13 awards in total, including six for Sesame Street.
