Academy Award-winning actress Anna Paquin spent time in her hometown of Winnipeg recently shooting Blue State, the first feature from U.S. writer/director Marshall Lewy, which wrapped in late-April after a 20-day shoot.
Her L.A.-based Paquin Films is coproducing with Winnipeg’s Eagle Vision. EV’s Kyle Irving (Capote) and Anna’s brother Andrew Paquin are producing, with Paquin herself serving as exec producer. The film is a romantic comedy with a political edge, about a Democratic campaigner, played by Breckin Meyer (Rat Race), who follows through on his promise to move to Canada after George W. Bush is reelected in 2004, with a traveling companion, played by Paquin, in tow.
According to Irving, the budget is just under US$1 million, with Manitoba Film & Sound contributing funding.
