The Simpler Life

Fort Qu’Appelle, SK – Donna Caruso’s Life Without Borders is pretty much a one-woman show – she writes, directs, shoots, produces and edits the magazine-style comedy show, about everyday life in rural Saskatchewan.

Principal photography on season three, 13 half-hours for SCN, wrapped at the end of July, with the first episodes set to air in the fall. Caruso’s production company Incandescent Films is based in her hometown of Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, where much of the shooting takes place.

Funded entirely by SCN, Caruso makes the series for pocket change, describing her budget as ‘the parking budget on any normal show,’ but it was one of the most-watched shows on the provincial broadcaster in its previous two seasons.

In addition to conversations with a diverse array of everyday people living in rural Saskatchewan communities, several personalities from Fort Qu’Appelle make regular appearances, including John Okolita and David Yee from the local hardware store and retired physics teacher Lynn Anderson.

Caruso is in development on a television version of The Clothes Line, her one-woman stage show. It has already been adapted for radio and will air on CBC Radio’s Richardson’s Roundup in the fall. Laura Bracken
