The Sundance Film Festival, considered by many the world’s premiere indie film fest, has announced its 2003 schedule, and several Canuck flicks have gotten the nod.
Opening in the North American Premier program is The Event, the latest feature from director Thom Fitzgerald, released by THINKfilm. Media Principia’s HD The Baroness and the Pig will be presented in the World Cinema sidebar, along with Travesty Productions’ deadend.com and Mina Shum’s Long Life, Prosperity and Happiness, produced by Shaftesbury Films and Massey Productions and distributed in Canada by Odeon Films and worldwide by Oasis International.
Jennifer Baichwal’s The True Meaning of Pictures: Shelby Lee Adams’ Appalachia will screen in the World Documentary series, while the National Film Board’s Is the Crown at War with Us? by Alanis Obomsawin runs in the Native Forum program, as does Pikutiskwaau (Mother Earth) by director Shirley Cheechoo. Moccasin Flats, directed by Randy Redroad for Big Soul Productions, will play in the Native American shorts program.
Also comprising the Canadian contingent are the short films At the Quinte Hotel by Douglas Bensadoun and Olivia’s Puzzle by Jason DaSilva.
The festival takes place in Park City, UT, Jan. 16-26.
