The Yokomites are coming! From Feb. 26 to March 16, YTV will unleash these animated glowing green bugs that will attack the kids network’s show credits and on-air promotions. YTV even secured permission to have the Yokomites storm its programs, and now not even Pokemon and the Rugrats are safe.

For this project, YTV purchased the Imagestore system from Britain’s Oxtel, which allows the YTV promotion department to plan times for Yokomites to appear, and then animates their behavior in realtime at preset attack levels. The bugs will then disrupt the broadcast signal by eating away at the shows.

The initiative, spearheaded by YTV on-air creative director Dolores Keating-Mallen, is a company-wide effort among creative, props, animation, graphic design and operations. It is also incorporated with the station’s website, where surfers can stem the tide of the Yokomite invasion in an online game. The event culminates at ytv.com with an interactive 3D comic strip. *
