Reel Black Awards honors filmmakers

Some of the world’s top Black filmmakers, directors and producers will be honored next month at the 10th annual Reel Black Awards, produced by the Black Film and Video Network. The event celebrates the contributions of Black filmmakers at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Co-hosts this year are cbc-tv reporter/anchor and award-winning journalist Hamlin Grange, and Donna Holgate. Past recipients include Sidney Poitier, Wesley Snipes, Maya Angelou, Clement Virgo, Orin Isaacs, Kenny Robinson and Ronnie Edwards.

The event takes place 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at the CBC Barbara Frum Atrium, located at 250 Front St. W. in Toronto.
