* Liz Shorten is the new communications and corporate affairs coordinator at British Columbia Film. She replaces Anita Wong, who has left to pursue freelance writing and communications work. Shorten’s recent experience includes a stint as corporate development manager at the Ontario Film Development Corporation and departmental administrator at the Vancouver Film School.
* Funding agency British Columbia Film has hired Trevor Hodgson as a program analyst, production. He replaces former BC Film analyst Karen Lam, who has joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in the production financing division of the Vancouver office. Hodgson was formerly director of development for locally based Ranfilm where he worked as co-executive producer on the features West of Sarajevo and Touched.
* Clark Peterson has been appointed head of production at Interlight in Los Angeles and will oversee the company’s Canadian activities. Recent Interlight productions produced in Canada include Resurrection and Camouflage. Previously, Peterson served as senior vp of creative affairs at Behaviour Worldwide and executive produced five movies with Allegro Films of Montreal.
* Glasgow, Scotland-based director Ros Borland has been hired as the new director of the annual international production conference Sharing Stories. Borland is a director with Garbriel Films and is a former commercial manager at bbc drama.
This year’s Sharing Stories conference is to be held in Edinburgh Nov. 12-14.
* The Canadian Cable Television Association has announced the appointment of Janet Yale as president and ceo, effective Aug. 1. Yale is currently senior vp, integration, AT&T Canada, responsible for the integration activities relating to the acc, MetroNet, Netcom and AT&T Canada. She joined the company in 1992 and has held progressively more senior positions, including senior vp, sales, business services group, and senior vp, external affairs.
* The Canadian Association of Broadcasters has honored Peter M. Liba, newly installed lieutenant-governor of Manitoba, with a special Gold Ribbon Award to commemorate his appointment and acknowledge his outstanding contribution to the Canadian private broadcasting industry.
Liba has held a host of senior positions with CanWest Global Communications since its beginnings in 1974. Just prior to his appointment, he was executive director, corporate affairs.
