During the Ontario Public Service Employees Union strike, a management team is doing its best to keep a skeleton operation going at the Ontario Film Development Corporation.
While it’s ‘quite trying,’ and way more cumbersome, ceo Alex Raffe says nobody who is currently doing business with them is left in the lurch. The manageable volume being an ironic fringe benefit of the freeze, cheques are being processed and final paperwork is going through. ‘We’re just not able to do any proactive work.’
Locations department head Gail Thomson is extremely busy, but reports the strike has not affected the ability to scout projects, and they are able to meet the needs of ongoing productions.
Thomson, surmising that she can hold it together through a long haul, says ‘I’m committed to not jeopardizing any production that wants to shoot in this province.’ The location library is closed, however, on an emergency basis, requests will be considered.
