Director of Marketing & Communications

The marblemedia group of companies, which include producer marblemedia and distributor Distribution360, is looking for a strategic marketing & communications specialist with a proven track record to join its growing operations. The Director of Marketing & Communications will be responsible for the development and implementation of an innovative marketing and communication strategy to support the organization and its leadership. The role requires the successful candidate to have experience in both business verticals and the ability to switch between the two seamlessly, managing multiple projects with varying internal stakeholders. He/She will work with the senior leadership team to build on market opportunities and initiatives that will continue to drive growth and new revenues for the company, its business divisions and properties. Championing communication of the company’s vision, he/she will steer all corporate communication activity working with the company’s external agency partner to deliver innovative marketing strategies that best support business objectives across all channels and tell the company’s story in creative, smart and meaningful ways.

Strategic Marketing Initiatives

• Develop and manage the group marketing strategy and vision in partnership with senior management
• Work collaboratively to establish new approaches to engage audiences, shape new project development, monetize content and services, and drive new business across both B2B and B2C initiatives (including the company’s youtube channel and websites)
• Execute marketing/discoverability plans for TV and DM projects, to maximize user acquisition or brand expansion, depending on project goals; track to budget, manage analytics and report on outcomes
• Establish distribution marketing objectives across individual titles and manage key action plans supporting the successful positioning of properties in marketplace
• Oversee the development of key business pitches and presentations, ensuring brand messaging is on point
• Partner engagement - work with external partners (producers, broadcasters, others) to promote marblemedia and D360 content
• Oversee the production and post production of digital video content for TV series; created for marketing purposes, including web and social media videos.
• Direct marketing efforts that support the company and its efforts at key trade events, to optimize efforts to pitch, sell and acquire content
• Monitor the competitive market landscape and actively advocate use of insights and best practices

Corporate Communications:

• Plan strategic messaging and promotional activity for the company’s divisions and key properties, including working with outside advisors to shape this messaging
• Oversee all PR initiatives, including but not limited to press releases for development, production and distribution, style guide development, unit PR and launch planning activity including but not limited to: developing the strategy, executing launch, marketing materials, events, content planning, social engagement, talent management, market research, and award applications
• Be the corporate champion of social media across all channels to: maximise the company’s reach and exposure, drive revenue generation of IP (both game and video-based content) and monitor the company’s social media footprint to ensure it stays relevant and in touch with its audience/followers
• Manage creation of all corporate marketing materials – corporate bios, websites, key copy descriptions, press kits, corporate announcements, etc.
• Build relationships and secure press opportunities with key trade and relevant consumer press and influencers
• Create exposure for the company and executives through speaking opportunities, written articles and other opportunities that showcase the team’s leadership
• Support trade events and international market initiatives

The ideal candidate will have the following:

• 7+ years of direct marketing & PR experience in a similar environment
• Demonstrated experience in managing social media to drive customer relationships, product awareness and revenue generation
• Solid knowledge of the Canadian and international content (TV, VOD and DM) landscapes
• B2C and B2B experience (including YouTube and relevant social media platforms)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, and to establish relationships, at all levels
• Ability to recognize and respond quickly and pragmatically to urgent situations.
• Excellent attention to detail
• Demonstrated initiative; be a self-starter and accountable
• Incredible relationship building skills, ability to gain trust
• Understanding of Canadian funding opportunities (such as the IPF, Shaw Rocket Fund, Bell Media Fund etc). is desirable
• Video editing/content creation skills would be an asset.

Currently, this role oversees one in-house graphic designer, an agency partnership and manages outside designer and marketing supplier relationships as required.
