Guru Studio is inviting a leader to join our management team as the Director of Production Finance. We are a creative driven entertainment company renowned for developing and producing internationally acclaimed and highly successful shows including our premier preschool Netflix Original, True and the Rainbow Kingdom, PAW Patrol™, the #1 U.S. Preschool smash-hit produced for Spin Master and Nick Jr.; Mattel’s, Ever After High; and its own original Emmy® Award nominated preschool series Justin Time in association with Disney Jr. Guru Studio was also involved in the production of the Academy Award nominated animated feature The Breadwinner, based on the award-winning novel by Deborah Ellis.

Led by President and Executive Creative Director, Frank Falcone, Guru Studio is lauded as an industry leader in animated storytelling. Through unique creative partnership models, they support production financing, distribution, and brand management across all platforms. The studio is developing comedy adventure series Big Blue with the CBC and is slated to deliver the third season of True and the Rainbow Kingdom in 2019.

Summary: As Guru’s Director of Production Finance, you will collect all production revenues & incentives and oversee the cost control of all production spending and related capital disbursements. You will ensure federal, provincial and other agency tax credits supports and related incentives are maximized and that all receivables are collected on a timely basis. You will seek out efficiencies by monitoring cost reports to ensure each production is completed on time and on budget. You will also analyze and report on the consolidated revenues and expenses for all of our projects in production. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to make recommendations on new deal structures and will be required to support negotiations on new deals. The role will oversee a portfolio of over 30 projects which contain of a mix of both original content, creative partnerships and services.

Core responsibilities:
• Production revenues and incentives;
• Review budgeted tax credit calculations for accuracy and completeness
• Ensure final tax credit claims are maximized and filed on a timely basis
• Reconcile final tax credit claims against budget, and report on variances
• Report on consolidated production receivables on a monthly basis, and prioritize follow-up with team members and funding agencies to claim outstanding amounts
• Work with Business Affairs to keep abreast of policy changes
• Work with Business Affairs and Production to ensure each production remains in compliance with CMF, CAVCO, OMDC and co-production treaties as applicable
• Oversee completion of closing audit binders to support external cost report audits and potential CRA audits
• Production expenses and cash flow;
• Set-up production financing on all projects, including reviewing cash-flows, calculating interim financing costs, and ensuring loans are in place for critical cash flow deadlines
• Train new producers on company cost reporting processes
• Review bi-weekly costs reports with Production Accountants and Producers, and flag any potential risks or opportunities to the VP Production and VP Finance and Business Affairs
• Implement processes to cross-check the accuracy of the cost reports, such as verifying production assumptions and scheduled completions
• Ensure any and all corporate costs are captured appropriately in the productions, and ensure all corporate revenues are collected on a timely basis
• Manage allocation of shared resources between productions
• Support for new business and corporate decision making;
• Report to senior management on the consolidated production revenue, costs, loans and tax credits receivable
• Prepare draft finance plans as required
• Provide financial analysis on outsourcing options and tax incentives in other jurisdictions
• Work with Bids Producer to maintain project tracker and suggest pricing on new business
• Review budgets for completeness and presentation, ensuring all indirect and shared costs are covered, ensure currency is properly accounted for, and ensure the external documents are clean and on brand

Qualifications:
• Bachelor Degree in Commerce or a related field
• Professional designation preferred (MBA, CA, or CPA)
• 10 years of experience in production financing or related role
• Hands-on experience in a production role, or a knowledge of the animation pipeline is an asset
• Extensive knowledge of CAVCO, OMDC, and CMF
• Experience with production payroll services such as EP Canada and Cast & Crew and accounting software such as SMART, PSL, VISTA
