mary-higgins-clark-01Montreal prodco and distributor Reel One Entertainment has partnered with L.A.’s Element 8 Entertainment and Paris-based La Sabotière to co-develop and produce an anthology series based on crime novels written by Mary Higgins Clark (pictured).

Screenwriter Ilene Rosenzweig (Station 19) is attached to write and executive produce. Each season will be based on one of Clark’s novels. The author has published more than 40 titles. The first season, which will start production in Toronto and New York in 2020, will adapt Clark’s novel I’ll Be Seeing You, about a TV journalist who tries to solve her father’s disappearance.

Reel One will handle international distribution sales. The company is currently shopping the anthology at MIPCOM and is in discussion with broadcasters in the U.S. and Europe.

French production company Newen closed a deal to acquire Reel One earlier this month. Newen announced plans to take a majority stake in the Montreal company in July, while Reel One founder and CEO Tom Berry will continue to hold a minority stake. The Department of Canadian Heritage approved the deal last week.

Reel One recently hired former Lifetime Channel and Hallmark Channel exec Barbara Fisher to lead its scripted development and production projects as EVP of scripted content, a newly created role based in L.A.
