The 2019 Banff World Media Festival (BANFF) saw international film and TV industry executives, producers and stars descend upon Banff, AB from June 9 to 12 to mark the event’s 40th anniversary, taking part in panels, pitching projects and attending various networking events against one of Canada’s most picturesque backdrops.

This year’s festival saw the introduction of the Banff Accelerator for Women in the Business of Media; Quibi’s Jeffrey Katzenberg set the platform’s North American launch date; and CBC pledge better hiring practices for its scripted and factual content and strike a MOU with Australia’s ABC. Netflix also announced partnerships with the Alliance des producteurs francophones du Canada (APFC), Telefilm Canada and the Canada Media Fund (CMF) on a film and TV professional development program for Canadian minority francophone creators, as well as a pact with the Indigenous Screen Office (ISO), Wapikoni Mobile and imagineNATIVE to support Indigenous creators in Canada.
