Polly Pocket locks in new broadcast deals

Universal Kids has picked up season one and a just-greenlit season two of the toy-inspired show from DHX and Mattel.

Universal Kids has pocketed the first two seasons of DHX Media and Mattel’s Polly Pocket series shortly after the two prodcos greenlit the second season. The U.S. kidsnet will begin airing season one of the animated show for six to 11s this summer.

The new animated series is part of a co-development, production, distribution and licensing deal between DHX and Mattel for new original content inspired by Mattel properties. DHX also works on Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam and Little People.

Season two, which is in production, will have a new 26 x 11-minute format differing from season one’s 26 x 22-minute run. In the show, Polly inherits a magic locket that gives her the power to shrink to four inches tall.

On top of Universal Kids, Polly Pocket season one was recently picked up by Hulu (U.S.), Videotron (French Canada), Super RTL (Germany) and HBO Europe (Portugal). This is in addition to several broadcasters that already air the show, including Sony Pictures Television’s POP channel (U.K.), Gulli (France), Canal Panda (Portugal) and Turner (Italy, Middle East, Turkey and Greece).

Mattel relaunched the Polly Pocket toy line in 2018, featuring the original tiny offerings that were incredibly popular in the ’90s. Over the IP’s life, Polly and friends have sold more than 10 million compacts.
