Filming is underway in Toronto and Hamilton, ON on Baldy, a feature from Toronto-based Film Forge Productions and Lisa Pictures in association with Babe Nation Films.
Co-written and directed by Calvin Thomas and Yonah Lewis, the feature follows a university dance major named Katie Arneson (Kacey Rohl, pictured) who lies about having cancer to capitalize on the attention and opportunities it brings. The deception comes to a head when Arneson has to provide medical records for a school bursary on a week-long timeline. Thomas and Lewis’ previous credits include Amy George, The Oxbow Curse and The Intestine.
Most recently, the duo’s Spice it Up, co-directed by Lev Lewis, made its world premiere in VIFF’s Future/Present program. Produced by Thomas and Lewis, the feature follows a film student who struggles to complete her thesis film project.
Thomas and Lewis serve as producers on Baldy alongside Film Forge’s Karen Harnisch and Playback 5 to Watch recipients Katie Nolan and Lindsay Tapscott from Babe Nation. Exec producers on the project include First Generation Films’ Christina Piovesan, Istic Illic Pictures’ Greg Stewart and Makers’ Sumit Ajwani and Jonathan Pottins. Lev Lewis and Yona Strauss serve as associate producers.
