Sinking Ship snags 17 Daytime Emmy nominations

It and 9 Story Media continued to make Canada a kids-content force to be reckoned with at the annual awards show.

Toronto’s Sinking Ship has once again made a splash at the Daytime Emmys, earning 17 nominations, including eight for its preschool property Odd Squad (pictured) and five for Annedroids.

Last year, the company scored 27 Daytime Emmy noms, including 15 for Odd Squad.

Produced alongside The Fred Rogers Company for PBS/TVO), Odd Squad is this year in contention for the Outstanding Children’s or Family Viewing Series category, as well as picking up nominations for writing, directing, art direction, lighting, costume design and sound mixing.

Annedroids meanwhile was also nominated for outstanding children’s series as well as best interactive media component, lighting, sound mixing and sound editing. In addition, Sinking Ship’s Dino Dana is in the running for best preschool series, outstanding performer in a kids series (Michela Luci) and best sound editing, while Giver was nominated for best educational or informational series.

Elsewhere, 9 Story Media animation Peg + Cat received a pair of nominations, for best preschool series and best writing in a preschool series, while another of its properties, the live-action family series Furze World Wonders (YouTube Red), was nominated for outstanding direction in a multi-camera program. As well, Wild Kratts is nominated for outstanding children’s animated series.

Beat Bugs: All Together Now also received nominations for best sound editing in an animated preschool series and best sound mixing in an animated preschool series.

The 45th annual Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards takes place on April 27, 2018.
