Corus Entertainment-owned Nelvana is set to start production on new original animated comedy-adventure series D.N.Ace.
The toon targets kids ages six to nine and combines facts with science fiction. D.N.Ace follows 12-year-old Ace Ripley as he learns he has the ability to manipulate DNA by fusing the genes of living things to create ridiculous creatures.
D.N.Ace will air on Corus-owned Teletoon in Canada and was created by Matt Wexler (Wexworks Media, Spin Master Entertainment), who is also executive producing.
Dentsu and OLM will represent the 40 x 22-minute series in Japan and will serve as consultants throughout the production process.
In October, Nelvana also partnered with Discovery Communications to form a new venture designed to produce and distribute kids content for global linear and digital markets.
Based in Canada, the venture will see Nelvana and Discovery Kids Latin America create a new pipeline of children’s content for international delivery. Operating independently, the venture will also acquire IP rights to brands, characters and concepts from Nelvana and Discovery for future development and production.
