The Locarno Film Festival has announced its full lineup, including a pair of films from Canadian directors.
Locarno’s Filmmakers of the Present section will feature the world premiere of Mañana a Esta Hora (This Time Tomorrow) from Colombian/Canadian filmmaker and TIFF manager of communications Lina Rodriguez. The film is produced by Rodriguez’s production company, Rayon Vert, which she runs with Brad Deane.
The festival will also feature Animals Under Anaesthesia: Speculations on the Dreamlife of Beasts, a short film from directors Melanie Shatzky and Brian M. Cassidy. The duo’s previous film, the 2012 feature Francine, starring Melissa Leo, premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, and their 2011 documentary The Patron Saints, won the award for best new talent from Quebec/Canada at the Montreal International Documentary Festival.
On the industry programming side of the fest, StepIn, an event that facilitates discussions between distributors and exhibitors of auteur cinema, will focus on Canada. Telefilm Canada and SODEC have partnered with the event. It will kick off with a discussion with Mongrel Media CEO Hussain Amarshi and TIFF artistic director Cameron Bailey, which will be moderated by Ira Deutchman, an independent producer and professor at Columbia University School of the Arts.
The Swiss film fest will take place Aug. 3 to 13 in Locarno.
