Bedward’s Foreigner wins two WIFT-T Showcase prizes

the foreignerThe Foreigner from writer/director Maya Bedward picked up two Women in Film & Television – Toronto Showcase prizes, including the 2016 Audience Choice Award.

The Foreigner, which is produced by Kate Fraser, claimed the 2016 Best of Showcase Award in addition to the audience award. The Audience Choice prize includes a $1,500 William F. White International equipment rental grant, while the Best of Showcase prize saw Bedward receive $5,000 worth of legal consultation from Dentons Canada LLP for her next project.

Elsewhere, short film Benjamin from director Sherren Lee and writer Kathleen Hepburn won the Best Screenplay Award. Producers on the project are Courtenay Bainbridge, Marc Tetreault and William Woods.

The winners of the WIFT-T BravoFACT Pitch Competition were also announced at the event, with Reem Morsi’s Show & Tell taking first prize and Nicole Bazuin’s The Unicorn claiming the second place prize. The first-place project was awarded a cash prize of $50,000, with the second-place winner taking home $40,000.
