donald sutherland-1Donald Sutherland will star in the upcoming Canadian feature Milton’s Secret, to be produced by Buck Productions, Fred Fuchs’ Riverside Entertainment and Hulo Films.

Milton’s Secret is an adaption of a book by the same name from authors Eckhart Tolle and Robert Friedman. The coming-of-age drama will be directed by Barnet Bain (What Dreams May Come), with production set to start in Toronto and the surrounding area this fall. The budget for the film is about $4 million.

Milton’s Secret focuses on the story of Milton Adams, an 11-year-old boy who is struggling with being bullied and his parents’ stress over their careers and finances. When his Grandpa Howard (played by Sutherland) comes to visit, however, Milton learns how worrying about the past and the future can stop one from finding happiness day to day.

Buck Productions boarded the project earlier this year with Fred Fuchs of Riverside Entertainment joining about two years ago. Milton’s Secret is produced by Sean Buckley for Buck Productions, Fuchs for Riverside Entertainment and Stephen Huszar and Ryan Lockwood for Hulo Films. The script was penned by Bain along with Donald Martin and Sandra B. Cooper.
