Secret Location and Touchpoint Films’ Whatever, Linda, took home awards from two of the three categories it was nominated in at the fourth annual International Academy of Web Television Awards on Wednesday evening.
Whatever, Linda won the Best Drama Series prize while series director Matt Eastman received the award for Best Directing (Drama).
Other Canadian winners include CBC’s Ruby Skye PI: The Maltese Puppy in the Best Children’s Series category, while Lindsey Middleton, of JLeaver Presentations’ Out With Dad‘s spin-off Vanessa’s Story, won the award for Best Female Performance in a Drama. The original Out With Dad series also won the trophy for Best Ensemble Performance (Drama).
U.K.-Canada copro SOS: Save Our Skin, produced by Canada’s Farmhouse Productions, Duopoly and Smiley Guy and the U.K.’s Baby Cow Productions, took home the award for Best Genre Series.
Elsewhere the writing team behind iThentic’s Space Riders: Division Earth won the best comedy writing trophy. The Power Rangers-inspired comedy was nominated for seven other awards including Best Comedy Series and Best Original Music.
Thom Smalley, Anthony Bair, and Lawrence Jackman, winners of the Best Editing award for their work on iThentic and 3 o’clock.tv’s Guidestones: Sunflower Noir, rounded off the list of Canadian winners.
Other big winners at the IAWTV Awards included the Argentinian zombie drama Daemonium Saga, which took home three awards, including Best Non-English series. California-based YouTube channel Player Piano took home four awards including Best Variety Series.
The International Academy of Web Television Awards took place on Wednesday evening at a gala event in Las Vegas as a part of the NAB trade show.
