Phil McCordic returns to TV hosting roots at TVO

The on-air host and producer at the educational broadcaster is hosting an original kids TV show from Breakthrough Entertainment.

Phil McCordic, a one-time kids TV on-air host and producer at TVO, now has his own show on the educational broadcaster.

McCordic is hosting Science Max: Experiments at Large, a kids factual series from Breakthrough Entertainment that supersizes scientific experiments normally restricted to the classroom lab.

After McCordic demonstrates an experiment the audience can do at home, he and his Science Max collaborators devise how best to make it successful on a “maxed-out” scale.

The collaboration on Science Max: Experiments at Large for TVOKids follows McCordic showrunning Breakthrough’s pre-school series Zerby Derby, his first original series.

TVO has also acquired another kids factual series, Sports Lab, about the science of sports, from Toronto-based Riverbank Pictures.

Sports Lab is hosted by Nykeem Provo, who meets kids and pros from varied sports as everyone discovers science is very much present in sports.

The science base of both kids series for TVO follows the Toronto-based broadcaster adopting more of a curriculum approach to TV programming that combines both entertainment and education.

Breakthrough will shop both Science Max: Experiments at Large and Sports Lab to international broadcasters at MIPTV.
