The U.S. pilot season has opened strongly for Canada.
The NBC martial arts drama pilot Warrior from David DiGilio (Crossbones) is to shoot at Cinespace in Toronto for two weeks in early March.
The OMDC online site also reports the Fox movie-to-TV pilot Minority Report is to shoot in the second half of March, again at Cinespace in Toronto.
The Minority Report pilot is produced by Amblin Television, Paramount Television and 20th Century Fox Television, with Godzilla‘s Max Borenstein writing the script and executive producing.
Steven Spielberg directed the original Minority Report movie.
Toronto is also set to host production for the first season of Damien, Lifetime’s six-episode follow-up to the 1976 feature The Omen from 20th Century Fox.
The Fox Television Studios drama is scheduled to shoot from March 16 to June 23 on soundstages at Ridgely Studio Works.
Elsewhere, in Vancouver, Cameron Crowe’s rock comedy pilot Roadies for Showtime will wrap production next week at North Shore Studios.
Luke Wilson, Imogen Poots, Keisha Castle-Hughes and Peter Cambor star in the behind-the-scenes look at a touring rock band from the Almost Famous writer-director.
The current strong demand for Canadian soundstages for U.S. series is in part due to original pilots for The CW, CBS, NBC and other networks in recent years coming north, with full-season orders staying here for production.
The plunging value of the Canadian dollar, compared to the American greenback, is also helping to draw U.S. network pilots north – projects that, in the past, might have opted to shoot in New York City or other American locales.
