IFC Midnight has snapped up the U.S. rights to Adam MacDonald’s Backcountry, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Fella Films picture was written and directed by MacDonald, and stars Missy Peregrym, with whom MacDonald co-stars in Rookie Blue.

Backcountry also stars Jeff Roop, Eric Balfour and Nicholas Campbell, and was produced by Thomas Michael.

The Canadian indie features a busy executive and her boyfriend enjoying a few days of camping when they face a wandering bear.

Cinetic Media negotiated the U.S. distribution deal with IFC Midnight on behalf of the filmmakers.
