Indie distributor A71 Entertainment has acquired the Canadian rights to Kyle Thomas’ The Valley Below.

The deal marks the second for A71 at the Toronto International Film Festival after coming into the market with the domestic rights to Albert Shin’s In Her Place.

Both titles have their world premiere in Toronto.

The Valley Below, Thomas’ directorial debut, stars Stephen Bogaert, Kris Demeanor, Mikaela Cochrane, Alejandro Rae and Joe Perry as it offers four vignettes set in Alberta’s Badlands.

In Her Place stars Yoon Da Kyung as an urban woman fleeing her own life of omission.

In other Canadian film market action, 108 Media has taken the North American distribution and world sales rights to Peter Lynch’s upcoming feature Birdland.

The indie murder mystery, to star David Alpay, will shoot in Toronto in February 2015.
